Avengers: Age Of Ultron, 01/05/15

Avengers: Age Of Ultron - Title

Joss Whedon’s Age Of Ultron may not quite live up to the thrills and geeky greatness of its predecessor, but there’s still plenty of fun to be had here. Chris Evans (Snowpiercer) and Jeremy Renner (The Hurt Locker) are the highlights in yet another hit for Marvel Studios.

Mad Max: Fury Road, 15/05/15

Mad Max: Fury Road - Title

George Miller (Happy Feet)’s long-awaited return to the Mad Max franchise yields an adrenaline pumping, epically violent and visually stunning near-masterpiece. Tom Hardy & Nicholas Hoult are fantastic, but it is Charlize Theron (Monster) who steals the show.

Pitch Perfect 2, 15/05/15

Pitch Perfect 2 - Title

Sadly neither as funny or entertaining as its predecessor, Pitch Perfect 2 is still an okay comedy sequel with a few strong musical moments. The story is contrived, but there are some solid turns from Anna Kendrick, Rebel Wilson and newcomer Hailee Steinfeld.

Poltergeist, 22/05/15

Poltergeist - Title

Light on scares and offering very little threat or tension, Poltergeist fails to grip the viewer as a horror spectacle. The performances are sound, particularly from Sam Rockwell and Rosemarie DeWitt, but there’s very little else here worth watching for.

Slow West, 22/05/15

Slow West - Title

Slow West lives up to its title – but that’s not necessarily a bad thing. Short and sweet, it offers a satirical take on the Western genre without ever being silly. Michael Fassbender and Kodi Smit-McPhee are terrific, while the cinematography is stunning.

Review coming soon.
