The Weekly Round-Up – 04/01-10/01

Aaaand… we’re back! Admittedly, it’s a little late, but exams do that to you. I had to spend an extra week and a half without TV while I pretended to revise for them. And they still sucked. But it’s all over now – along with the TV season winter break – and plenty of my favourite shows are back on the air once again. Along with The Big Bang Theory.

Homeland Banner - Season 4

In reality the returning crop isn’t actually that great. There’s no Arrow, no SHIELD and no Flash, while both Homeland and Doctor Who wrapped up their seasons during the holidays. Speaking of the latter duo, I didn’t have a chance to review their season finales while I was away, so check out my thoughts down below. You can also look out for my full ‘season reviews’ – coming soon, whenever I get motivated enough to write ’em 😉

But for now, check out my thoughts on the finales, along with returns for Brooklyn Nine-NineGotham and more…

Doctor Who Banner - Title

Doctor Who, BBC – Last Christmas

Moffat & co. delivered an emotional Christmas ride this year. A sneaky bait-and-switch at the end kept the audience on its toes, but it was the performances that made this episode memorable. Hats off to Nick Frost in particular. We’ll see you next season Who! – 9/10

Homeland, SHO – Long Time Coming

Huh. That may have been the most anti-climatic season finale I’ve ever seen – and it seems a lotta people agreed. Some of the backlash has been a bit harsh, it was very well acted after all. I just wish it’d been a little less… dull? Great season, boring finish – 7/10

Brooklyn Nine-Nine Banner - Title

Brooklyn Nine-Nine, FOX – Beach House

The episode began with plenty of laughs, but the quality tailed off a little towards the middle. A satisfying conclusion and some interesting character development for Holt overcame the clichéd premise, while Boyle continues to entertain – 8/10

The Blacklist returns 05/02/15

Gotham, FOX – Rogues Gallery

I’m not sure if Gotham has turned over a new leaf, but this ended up being a very enjoyable, pretty well acted 40 minutes to kick off the show’s 2015 run. I’ve been particularly impressed with Butch, while Harvey was entertaining as ever – 8/10

The Big Bang Theory, CBS – The Space Probe Disintegration

Nothing to see here. It was more of the same from Chuck Lorre & co, I’m afraid, as TBBT delivered yet another… average episode. Recently, I caught a few of the old episodes, back from when I liked this show. That seems like a lifetime ago now… – 7/10

Elementary Banner - Title

Elementary, CBS – The Eternity Injection

I’m not really sure how I feel about Elementary at the moment. I’m never very excited to watch a new episode, and it’s clearly lacking in an overall story arc. However, it’s hard to complain about the high quality of acting on display each episode. It’s a puzzle… – 8/10
