We start this week with a bit of disappointing news: the inexplicable one week breaks have begun! This week we’re losing both Agents Of SHIELD and The Flash to mysterious scheduling reasons – and I’m none too happy about it! That said, with so much TV on at the moment, we’ve still got a cracking line-up to enjoy.
The star of the show has to be Doctor Who, which airs its Season 8 finale on Saturday. Despite being in a transition period with the recent arrival of Peter Capaldi, Steven Moffat’s writing team have been delivering the consistency we never saw with Matt Smith. After a magnificent set-up last week, this final episode should be a blast!
Joining the BBC show are new episodes of Homeland, Arrow, Gotham and more – scroll down to check them out!
Homeland, SHO – From A To B And Back Again
Wow. Homeland delivers arguably its greatest episode since Season 2’s Q&A with this shocking thriller, full of classic espionage, twists and pulsating tension – 10/10
The Blacklist, NBC – The Scimitar
A satisfying conclusion and an unpredictable villain help make the latest episode of The Blacklist worthy of a watch, but Season 2 has yet to live up to its early potential – 8/10
Gotham, FOX – Penguin’s Umbrella
Easily Gotham‘s best episode to date – the stakes are high, the tension is raised, and the players are skilfully preparing for the inevitable war looming on the horizon – 8/10
There were no new episodes of either Agents Of SHIELD or The Flash this week.
Arrow, The CW – The Secret Origin Of Felicity Smoak
Brandon Routh and Emily Bett Rickards shine, but the latest episode of Arrow‘s third season is lacking in some of the substance and quality of Season 2 – 8/10
The Big Bang Theory, CBS – The Prom Equivalency
The prom-night nostalgia doesn’t quite work for a show like The Big Bang Theory, but Sheldon and Amy’s story ensures this episode still has a lot of heart – 8/10
Elementary, CBS – The Five Orange Pipz
While this week’s mystery is fairly sub-standard, the subtle character interactions between Watson, Sherlock and Kitty make this Elementary episode still worth a watch – 7/10
Constantine, NBC – The Devil’s Vinyl
The freshman show bounces back from its shaky start with this wonderfully entertaining mystery of the week that also features the impressive debut of Papa Midnite – 8/10
Doctor Who, BBC – Death In Heaven
Season 8 ends with an emotionally turbulent finale that never fails to be entertaining, but inevitably struggles to live up to the incredible build up from last week too – 9/10
Didn’t manage to get around to watching any Under The Dome this week.
|2||Agents Of SHIELD||ABC||6||8.7|
|7||The Big Bang Theory||CBS||8||7.8|
|11||Under The Dome||CBS||3||7.3|

Well that brings Doctor Who‘s eighth season to a close – at least until the Christmas special, that is. That finale hit me right in the feels (on a number of occasions) and was worthy of the season that preceded it. On the whole, it’s been a remarkable return to form for Steven Moffat’s writing team – while Jenna Coleman needs to take a bow. Look for my Doctor Who (Season 8) – Review coming soon in the next few weeks!
Funnily enough, there was other TV on this week – just none so… exciting. Well, aside for Constantine, which really displayed an impressive turnaround from last week’s sub-par episode with a corker of a horror/mystery tale that hopefully promises more to come! But while the other shows shared fairly quiet weeks, Homeland stole the limelight with a shocking masterpiece of an episode – that is guaranteed to have people talking for days.
Best Episode: Homeland – From A To B And Back Again
Doctor Who will return 25th December for a ‘Christmas Special’…
